I’m Excited About the New Google Analytics Engagement Goals Feature

Since I run so many content-centric sites, I’ve never really had much use for Google Analytics’ goals. It’s one thing when you’re doing lead generation or ecommerce. Those goals are clear and easy to define.

Someone filled out a form? Goal reached.

Someone hit a thank you page for purchasing a book? Goal reached.

For content sites, where the aim is engagement goals are tougher to define.

That is, until GA introduced Engagement Goals. Using Time on Site and Pages/Visit as new triggers you’ll soon be able to set goals based on the stickiness of your content. For DrunkenFist.com, a site whose main goal is to get people clicking the next button through art galleries, setting a threshold of, say, 5 minutes on site or 20 pages viewed as goals is a no-brainer.

I can’t wait until this is available in my account.

Here’s a video that shows how it will work
